Monday’s Child is fair of face,
Tuesday’s Child is full of grace,
Wednesday’s Child is full of woe,
Thursday’s Child has far to go,
Friday’s Child is loving and giving,
Saturday’s Child works hard for a living,
But the Child born on the Sabbath, is
bonny and blithe, and good and gay.
The first known publication was in 1836 - it is not attributed to a specific author and has been republished with a few variations. It is called a poem and/or a nursery rhyme. I’m not certain when an analysis of this was associated with the planets, or by whom that association was connected, but it certainly provides food for thought. I can’t honestly attest to the character of a child on a given day except to say my son was born on a Friday and he is very loving and giving. I can and will acknowledge the clarity of the assignment of planets to specific days and how this poem correlates to the energy of the planet assigned to that given day.
Monday ~ The Moon
Tuesday ~ Mars
Wednesday ~ Mercury
Thursday ~ Jupiter
Friday ~ Venus
Saturday ~ Saturn
Sunday ~ The Sun
Monday’s association with the Moon makes sense. We are generally a bit crotchety and moody on a Monday morning as we shift from the relaxation of the weekend into the work week. The Moon represents our emotions, and the poem suggests those born on Monday are fair of face - translated to a soft and expressive face. Perhaps light or pale in color, illuminating brightness such as the Moon, with a propensity for moodiness.
Tuesday’s association with Mars makes total sense. Full of grace suggests agility and perhaps an expression of intent / a drive ~ that one might be filled with the desire for a closeness to God.
Wednesday’s child has the influence of Mercury which may cause woe because of the possibility of overthinking - “too much on one’s mind”.
Jupiter rules Thursday and because of its expansive energy and desire for growth and knowledge, those born on this day will certainly go far.
Friday’s child is influenced by Venus who is loving and giving.
Saturday’s child will work hard for a living could be due to it being ruled by the planet Saturn, our taskmaster.
Sunday’s child should be bonny and light (my interpretation for blithe - negating a casual or indifferent quality. The goal of all the planets in our chart are to help our natal Sun to shine its highest and brightest light.
I look forward to your thoughts on this presentation and if you thought it interesting. Let me know how you plan to use the energy of a specific day. Please comment ~ I am here to engage.
I always post my blog on Fridays, and I think using the day of Venus helps keep conflict minimal, even though I take on difficult subjects sometimes. I was born on a Tuesday, the day of Mars, and definitely tended to be caught up in more conflict when I was younger.
